I am a birth mom that relinquished a
child for adoption as a young girl.
Little did I know that I could never again
conceive. I experienced profound grief in
relinquishing my child. It remains the
most painful decision of my life, to love
this child enough to place her with a
family who would raise her to be their
own.
I returned into the world of adoption ~
this time as an adopting parent. My
prayers were answered when I became
the mother to two baby girls from
Guatemala. They became the love of my
life. At last, I had two daughters- the
circle of adoption to adoption was
complete. I found complete healing and
utter love with my 2 daughters, my new
family.
I went on a quest to locate my birth
daughter. I now have a loving
relationship with her. As strange as it
may sound, adoption touched her life in
more ways than one also. My birth
daughter herself adopted a baby from
Ethiopia.
I also went on a quest to locate my birth
daughter's birth father's family. My birth
daughter has met her half siblings. As
strange as it may sound, her half sister
gave birth and relinquished a child for
adoption! As you can tell, adoption has
touched my life in many ways!!!
I want to share the message to others
that the heart knows no boundaries,
no color ~ only love. I started a doll
company about adopting baby dolls
from around the world based on my
own personal experience.
Think how wonderful it would be for
an adopted child to see their friends
playing and loving an ethnic baby doll.
It would give self esteem and a pride
in their heritage and it would teach
biological children more about
adoption and loving without
limitations. Everyone has a right to
celebrate the beauty of their heritage.
After all, children see only through
eyes of love.
I believe if adoption was addressed
more, that people would understand it
better. Too often, people ask
questions about my dark haired, dark
eyed girls, "Where did they come
from?, "Are they sisters?", "They are
so fortunate to have been adopted".
I always down play questions like this
because people generally mean well,
but they just don't understand it. It is I
that is the fortunate one! I'm sure that
any other adoptive mother would
agree.
