Talk about a cross over success!

Emmy-award winning journalist Maria Celeste Arraras, of
Telemundo’s Al Rojo Vivo will be a guest co-host

Maria Celeste will be presenting various segments for Today
between the 9 to 10 AM time slot, live from New York's

outdoor summer studio.

But nothing is more impressive than the
bigger than life billboard of
Maria Celeste in Times Square!
Now THAT is really history in the making!
Affirmative Action Again in the Supreme Court

Separate but Equal was declared illegal in
Brown v. Board of Education back in the 1950's.
Fifty years later, some schools are still all white or all black.
School districts attempt to mix it up by having race as a factor in admissions.

2 cases involved here.  Louisville, Kentucky & Seattle, Washington.
In Seattle, the system in question is a "tie breaker".
If an applicant has a brother or sister in the school they get preference.
2nd tiebreaker is race: which applicant helps the high school
have district wide ratio of whites to nonwhites, 40 to 60%.
The motivation of "breaking a tie" is NOT a compelling state interest.
Therefore this system did not stand& will be reviewed by the High Court.

In Louisville, Kentucky, the Jefferson County School District
was ordered to desegregate back in 1974.
Almost 30 years later the federal court order lapsed.
The school district set a rule saying that race may be considered
as one of the factors in order to maintain the diversity of the school.
Plaintiff claims her son was denied admission
into his neighborhood school because he is
white.

The Supreme Court will decide both cases.

Where's the case of the black family that tried to buy that very house
across the street from the school but were denied?!

South Central Farmers Evicted

In the middle of industrial South Los Angeles
is a 14 acre community garden providing for 350 families.
The city of Los Angeles SOLD the garden.
The new owner wants the people OUT unless they can buy it from him for
$16 million

From Office of the Mayor ANTONIO R. VILLARAIGOSA

Today's events are unfortunate, disheartening and unnecessary. ... Even
after meeting his asking price, Mr. Horowitz told me that he would not sell the
property to the Trust for Public Lands and the Annenberg Foundation. ...
Everyone involved who cares about this garden and who cares about the
farmers who have built an oasis in a sea of industry and concrete has done
everything possible to meet the property owner's demands.  First it was about
price, well, we met his price. He set the bar very high and we met it.

I understand a businessman's need to invest and make a profit. I also have
a high respect for and will defend property rights.  But I also believe that we
are called upon by a sense of community and civic duty to do the just and
right thing. I had hoped that the landowner would have heeded that call.
