Puerto Rico Smoking Ban in Effect

People in Puerto Rico faced fines Friday as a ban on lighting up in
enclosed public spaces took effect.  It also prohibits smoking in
private cars with children under 13 inside.  Violators face a penalty of
$250 for a first offense and up to $2,000 for repeat violations.

Opponents say ban threatens tourism because people like to
smoke in casinos, key to Puerto Rico's $3 billion tourism industry.

25.6 million men 25.2% &  22.6 million women 20.7%  smoke.
Among Whites, 25.1% of men and 21.7% of women smoke.
Among Blacks, 27.6% of men and 18% of women smoke.
Among Asians, 21.3% of men and 6.9% of women smoke.
Among Hispanics, 23.2% of men and 12.5% of women smoke.
