"My parents didn’t teach me
Spanish."
WRONG. No one “teaches” you a
language. Learning language is a
human instinct. Like walking, running,
and BREATHING.
Or “My mother didn’t even speak
Spanish.”
WRONG. Usually, with a closer look,
the parents speak English NOW, but
not when they were much younger, as
in – NOT when they had little children,
the same children that insist their
parents “never even spoke Spanish”.
These people were immersed in
Spanish at a very young age, and can
decide to bring out that knowledge
instead of pushing it away.
I can speak it. But not everyday. So
I can’t teach my child Spanish.
WRONG. People in this category are
actually in the PERFECT position to
teach their babies. The younger the
child the better. With a baby, you same
simple phrases: “You’re so cute!” “I love
you!” “Are you hungry” over and over
again. As you do this, your own
memory comes back. And as your
Spanish is coming back, you speak
more to your child.

I don’t speak Spanish.
WRONG. Yes, that’s right.
WRONG. Its makes me laugh
when Latinos say this without
realizing they just said it with an
accent! HA!

You DON’T because ...you CHOOSE not to.
|
Or because you really think you
don’t because you never do.
When you hear a song you haven’t
heard in a long time, your mind is
flooded with memories and the
words come back.
Turn off the song and try to sing it.
Can you? NO. Of course not.
Does that mean that you –DON’T
KNOW THE SONG? No of course
not. Same with language.
TURN UP the Spanish in your
mind!
