I oftentimes, when it’s bright and sunny
outside, think about the color of the
sun. It has plagued me for years! Is it
yellow? Like they teach in school? Or
is it orangey-reddish-paprika?
See everytime it’s bright and sunny
outside, I’m back in 2nd grade in the
schoolyard and someone would ask
me, “Hey, hey, what’s the color of the
sun, huh? What’s the color of the
sun?!” And I would look up and say,
“Its yellow”, very matter-of-factly. Cuz I
wanted to fit in, see. I was new at the
school. Well everytime the same
scenario would play out….
The kid would start laughing and
running circles around me, joined by
their friends, “Hey, what’s the color of
the sun, huh? What’s the color of the
sun?”
I wanted to fit in so badly! That I would
gaze up on the sun. Squinting my eyes
and say, “Well, maybe it’s more
orange.” Of course, “orange” would fall
on deaf ears cuz the kids would run off
laughing.
What is the COLOR of the Sun? by LaDiva Torres

So since the 2nd grade I contemplated,
what IS the color of the sun?
And one day – it dawned on me. Or
should I say, it ‘shone’ on me. It came
to me like a bright light. I could hardly
believe it myself! Over twenty yearzzzzz
later. I finally figured it out! SMH. Ave
Maria!
And when I figured it out I laughed so
hard! I could hardly contain myself!
You see ..... when I was in second
grade, English was my second
language! So the color of the sun
was…… jello!
